Literacy Development Across the Age Span

Literacy Development begins at birth, some people might say it begins before birth.  And, we continue to learn literacy skills through adulthood.  Some adults only learn to read as adults; others refine and extend their literacy skills through formal and informal education, the work place, and personal interests.

 

The Beginnings of Literacy:  Birth through Age 5

 

The early years of school based literacy:  Ages 6-10 (Grades K-5)

 

Literacy in the Middle Grades (Grades 6-8)

 

Literacy in High School and Beyond (Grades 9-Adulthood)
