Overview of Reading Comprehension

Developing an authentic, valid tool for assessing reading comprehension has been a challenge.  Often the assessment consists of nothing more than generating a single, short oral answer to a factual question; or, in written form, students are typically asked to choose one of three or four possible (written) choices.  While this allows us to assess simple factual comprehension, it does not usually get at understanding of more abstract or complex comprehension.   David Pearson does a nice job of addressing this dilemma in his power point presentation:  include link here?
